GA200® BSLD - Leak detection

Steam leaks are a major source of loss. Leaks grow in size and often damage adjacent plants, causing plant safety issues if left undetected and unchecked. GA 2000 helps to prevent plant damage and associated problems from steam leaks,

Sensors are typically placed on both sides of a boiler in a box arrangement at a level in-between two rows of tube banks to allow comparison between absolute sound levels making the location of the leak relatively straight forward.

Detecting a leak is a simple matter of monitoring the sound level of each sensor (which has boiler noise filters applied) and trending the absolute sound level and observing the rate of change against time.

The normal background noise of a particular sensor will be 70 - 85 dB (the dB will be vary in different areas of the boiler and will be boiler type dependent). Leaks will generate noise of 90 dB and over, and will continue to rise and can be easily distinguished inbetween soot-blowing operations.

The system sensors are designed to operate in extremes of temperature, in excess of 125. C, are finely tuned and cut out the background boiler noise – allowing for quick and effective detection.

Advantages:

  • Detection and prevention of leaks at an early stage and the establishment of the exact location of the leak
  • High-tech sound system detection with high sensitivity
  • Trimming the background noise of the boiler for high precision
  • Safe detection of leaks - no need for a manual visual inspection
  • Distinguishes between small and large leaks
  • Optional user interface allows the user to analyze the sound remotely trends (graphs) and the data on the computer's desktop, giving engineers the opportunity to observe the development of the leak in the pipe, and to compare the data with the sound of previous events
  • Absolutely linear calibration at any time
  • Detects leaks in the blocks in the superheater tubes, reheater, economizer and boiler collectors dead zone
  • The option of air and structural sensors (listening to the air space inside the boiler and boiler design elements)
  • Processor cuts off all background noise boiler for each sensor
  • The sensors are absolute and calibrated at the factory.
  • Modern microelectronic structure having a sensor and a digital logarithmic amplifier, allows sensors to refer to a class of heat resistance and moisture resistance IP68
